I had a hard time liking my PS3.  Only game I miss was Wipeout HD.

That being said, the PS4 seems to be better then the XBOX One so far.  Would really depend on games, but I think im done with consoles for a good while, maybe ever.

I found out the 3 d camera is just for move games cause the move control is built in to the controller. I played the ps3 exclusively for the last 6 years the hardware was always leaps and bounds above the Xbox. Games were actually at 1080p not upscaled from 720 along with your Netflix and when you got 115 kills on metro playing battlefield your game didn't crash because it was out of ram. The only reason I switched was due to the network issues I couldn't play for a month so I got pissed off and sold it for an Xbox which I have enjoyed but in hind sight I could have saved 600 dollars and stuck with my ps3 and been better off because halo is outdated and to easy to own at, and gears of war was garbage I played the entire series it had its fun points but the cut scenes would play at less res then 720

But with the new console their updating and expanding their network so its gonna hopefully be better the second time around.

I agree with two other points. The PS4 is supposed to start getting rid of the disc based games and going to downloadable content only (how quickly this happens if at all will be interesting, and really curious how much content will cost $60 for DLC is IMO). Another thing would be the fact you have to keep shelling out hundreds of dollars every couple of years for a new system, and finally they have killed backwards compatibility (started with certain PS3's I've read 4 will not be backwards compatible but you can download all those PS3 games you loved and pay for them again ). The video I watched about (guess it was a release vid) showed a lot of promise, now how much of that is hype on their part is yet to be determined. If 80% of what they promised is delivered I'll probably shell out the coin for the PS4.

Currently have both xbox 360 and ps3.  I think on the new systems coming out, I'm leaning towards ps4 just because xbox one has put so many restrictions on what games you can play.  If the ps4 comes out with a party chat system like the xbox has, hands down its ps4

They talk about it every console cycle.

It's also been crushed by Squeenix over and over for good reason.  They have said flat out they will never support a remake because the nostalgia is just to strong and it's NEVER paid off.  They gave a nice little hint that they would be interested in a remake if they ever surpass the sales and quality of FFVII.  Hasn't even come close yet.

They would need to release an updated version with modern mechanics and an original version.

This is where you are wrong.

PlayStation doesn't make any money on their consoles, matter of fact they LOSE money on them. But, they can afford that because there money is made on licensing their games. Hence the reason for not having the backwards capability.

I fully expect the console costs to be between $350-$450 and the games to be $70-$80 each.

I thought they made their money off of Movies/Music????

Hopefully you are right on the $350 - $450.

I just can't see them selling the PS3 at $499 and $599 on launch and then turn around and sell a MORE powerful system at a cheaper price. Especially being it's widely known they lose money in all of their electronic endeavours.

**ETA** Just noticed you said Playstation... Not Sony. Nevermind on the Movies/Music line.

Eh.  I remember reading an article that looked at inflation vs game prices.  Games back in the 80's would cost you the equivalent of something like $100 today.  So in actuality games are cheaper now than they ever have been, adjusted for inflation.  $70 or even $80 would still be cheaper too.

Not saying I WANT them to raise the price or anything, and we're in a recession and so forth, but at the same time it's not like they are going into uncharted, neva been dun befo' pricing territory here.

The cost to manufacturer the discs was never an issue, think about how many AOL disks they used to send out every year (millions). The packaging and artwork cost more than the actual discs most likely.  I agree that the games will be around the same cost, this is not about saving you as the consumer money on the games. It is about removing some of the costs so they can keep the cost down, and also they get more control over you and the game if its downloadable content.

This is sort of how I'm leaning for now.  I won't pick one up first year of release (early adopters lol) but that's the one that has most of my attention, though I will remain primarily a PC gamer.  The main thing (that we actually know for now) about the xbox itself that I don't like is that of the 8 gigs of memory, only 5 are going to be free for gaming with the other 3 dedicated to the various OS's, as opposed to about 7 for the PS3.  That's not a problem now (and 512mb wasn't a problem back when the 360 came out either), but I'm guessing that this will turn into a bottleneck at some point in the console's future.  That extra 2 gigs that the PS4 will have might make a big difference.  Or it might not, who knows.  I still prefer the PS4's specs though.

Price will factor into it too though, so depending of what each sells for it might make a difference.  I don't think Sony will make the same mistake they did with the PS3 though, selling for $600 or whatever it was at launch.  But I figure there will be a price drop a year from now anyway.

Honestly, the PS4 sounds better than the Xbox1 so far, but if either of the systems are $500 or more you are better off getting a PC.  And I hate PC gaming, I hate upgrading hardware, driver conflicts, etc. as I am a lazy gamer, but really they are all screwing their customer bases here.  I will probably get a PS3 when the new consoles come out, plenty of games for me to play as I only own an Xbox 360 right now.

Source?  Not disbelieving you, but I'd be surprised if MS allowed themselves to be undersold, and I've also heard that there will be 2 price points for at least one of the consoles.  What I've heard (old rumors, granted) was something more like $349 for the X1 and $399 and $449 for the PS4, with a couple different HDD sizes or something.

But like I said those are old rumors, so things may well have changed.  And now that the kinect comes with every console, maybe this bumps the overall X1 price up.
