I've been looking to KY, TN, TX or VA.  I'm in IT and the wife's a Veterinary Technician.  Aside from the outrageous gun laws, taxes are killing us here.  We could stand to make 10-15K less combined, and still be ahead between the recovery of state income and property taxes in any of the other states.

We had been leaning to VA a few years ago, but in comparison, property appears to be a little more expensive.  So TX, KY and TN have recently peaked our interest.  Texas is a haul, especially with aging parents here in NY.  At least with KY, TN or VA - its about a days drive back here if needed.

But we're to the point of just selling the house to break even and grabbing an apartment in a free state.  It does bother us to think we'd be feeling as if we're starting over - not thrilled about it, but we both have got at least another 25 years in the workforce before retirement anyways.

After I retire in a few years, I'm thinking TN or KY.  Good for guns and motorcycle riding!

WA isn't making a push for new gun laws, we got suppressors back last year, and are working on getting SBR's back this year. You'd probably make a similar amount of money here as to what you would in new york.

The climate is also much more temperate. Cool during the winter but not a lot of snow in the lowlands, not humid, and not fucking hot.

SC, AZ, TN, KY are on the top of the list. Plan now is we go in 18 months, house on the market early spring 2014.

Wife has relatives in SC, I lived in TN when I was a kid and liked it. Job market looks real good for me in the south east, not so good for her so there is a little risk.

Montana, Idaho, or Wyoming.  I've been too and like all three.

I can't even think about moving for another 8 years though.

I've been going to school in PA for the past 3 years, so I should probably move somewhere near there.  Wish I had a buddy with a garage down there!  Got some classmates with a house near the university, I suppose I could live there if I had to.  My problems my big dog, most places won't let you have big dogs.

I have a place in PA, a cabin and a camper, but a new house is a couple of years off. If I have to I an take the fam up there in an emergency. Wife and I are going thru finances now to see if our departure can be moved up....

I'm looking at Wyoming first, Montana second for retirement. I work for the state, and have 5 more years for a full retirement. However, I can slink over the border into Vermont to complete my term. Do you know anyone who wants to buy a 550-acre farm in upstate eastern NY?

I am not in NY, but still behind enemy line, in Kalifornia.

Start making plans last year to move to either TX or AZ.  Rumor is, my company might pick up and move to Fort Worth, and close the Kalifornia facility, if that is the case, I go to Texas.  If our Kalifornia operation remain operational, I'll be moving to AZ.  In either case, I am going to establish residence in AZ this year.

Go F yourself, Kalifornia.

Born and raised on Long Island, my father and brother still live there.  I lived in Florida for 10 years and California for 10 years.  I live in West Tennessee now, and wish I would have moved here 20 years ago. We love living in a small town with Southern values, the schools here are good, and our kids 15 and 13 like it here as well. Excellent hunting and fishing. Be sure to check out Land Between the Lakes recreation area.  One big drawback; there are no jobs here, so if you need to work look closer to a larger city like Clarksville, Jackson, or Nashville area. If you want any other info send me a email or IM and I'll try to answer your questions.

Looking at PA, SD, and ID.  It will take a couple or even several years to get everything in order, but we are out of here.  This current stunt by the NYS government was the final straw, but certainly not the only reason.  WNY is an economic wasteland these days, and things stand to get worse not better.  I will not allow my children to get stuck here because they don't know any better.

I just started a new precision rifle marksmanship training company in NY, Long Gun Training based out of Western NY. While I was at the SHOT show this all went down, even though the current position of the state does not affect precision rifles, and it may move folks over to a bolt gun and be good for business we are looking hard at Idaho for a move.

I'll do it again, my epic saga of comedy for the Arfcommers moving to other states from New York:

Non New Yorker, "What's that?"

New Yorker; "A latte'."

Born in the Bronx then moved upstate to the Mid Hudson Vally when I was 12 and lived upstate for 30 years then moved to Florida.

The only thing I miss from NY is the food in NYC.I haven't been back since I left and have no plans to visit .....ever.

And I have to add that I'm a New Yorker and love my home state but I will not set foot into NY because of what it has become.

Texas is going blue in our lifetimes. KY and TN are nice, northern VA is liberal and congested, southern VA is nice with some pockets of libtardness

That's not usually how people describe NY and jersey drivers, might be they slow down in Death's Waiting Room.

My granny in law lives in Florida. You could make numerous criticisms of her driving but slow isn't one of them.

I left NJ 20 years ago, because it was going downhill.

Sometimes you just have to ask yourself this:  If things suck, why don't I just go somewhere I'd rather be?  It may still suck, but at least I'll be where I want to be.

It worked for me.

Time from deciding to leave and traveling 1200 miles was about 4 days.  Haven't looked back, haven't gone back... never going back.

I went, got established, and in about 8 months my wife and kids caught up with me after the house sold.  You can do it - you just have to want it, then do it.

Best wishes for safe journeys everyone.

A fresh start is a life changing thing.  Stop wishing and start living!  You can do it.

NC, VA, PA, OH...these states need conservative voters.  KY and TN are great places to live but your votes are not as needed.

You must not realize that most of those people are from up north. Walk into any restaurant in south Florida with a parking lot full of Florida plates and all you hear are Yankee accents no matter how old they are.
