[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Poor Coyote (Page 1 of 4)
On a friends ranch here in Nevada I've seen coyotes kill a newborn calf just to eat the liver. I've seen coyotes take my sisters dog and eat it. I've seen coyotes kill $8,000, yes $8,000, in sheep in one night. I've seen them eat newborn lambs. I will shot those bitches on sight whenever I see them without even a second thought. There is a reason here in Nevada that you can shoot them 24 hour a day, no limit, no license. The goverment even employes shooters from helecopers to control them. Those yotes are a menace and need to be taken care of. Talk to any rancher who's income depends on productive animal stock and they will tell you the same thing. |
| Coltsfan... why dont you stay over at DU where you belong... because this is not the place for you and your kind. You are the reason this website has problems and gets looked down on by so many people. At this point this thread blongs in GD with all the other garbage this site is known for. |
|
I don't know what all that flippin around is all about, when ever I shoot something it just collapses on the ground. I shot a coyote awhile back with a Q3131 round, I shot it in the neck on the right side, recovered bullet under the skin half way down the back ON THE RIGHT SIDE! The bullet made a U turn inside! Just like they say, with an M16, you can shoot a guy in the ankle and the bullet'll come out behind his ear. |

very cool vid! I just got charged by 2 tonite! going back to my car so i was running down the trail to get warm and i see two dogs running at me... noticed they were coyotes, they noticed i was NOT a deer and they bolted into the woods about 40 yards from me - didnt have time to knock an arrow damnit! The land is overrun with them now and the deer population is very thin so were taking a trip with our ars one of these days .There pests basicaly - like 'coons and possums - so they die - like ants, mice, spiders. I love ppl complaining about killing animals like that - do you not kill ants then or do you use those ?[edit] and its not sensless - ITS FUN! |
What you gonna do? Cook him up with some Possum stew and make some slippers out of him? It is a varment, a pest. They kill livestock. Kill em all and hang em from the fence. |
In Texas they are under rabies quarantine and can be killed as varmints and shouldn't be messed with unless you're a fool. ETA pg. 71 TPWD book. |
A lot of counties in Texas have, or had bounties on coyotes. We used to kill em for the bounties for beer money when I was in High School. |
I get you, I was a dedicated "joy hunter" when I grew up. |
We raised spanish goats so it was more of a survival of income with benifits. Coyotes can absolutely devistate a goat herd in just a few nights. Especially when they are dropping. I wont hesitate one second in killing a coyote. |
Dropping. Uhg. I hate kids or coyote attractors. But we had a pretty mean ram with some screwed up horns. One unicorned out. |
Yeah, we run a jackass with ours (I named it after my wife much. Coyotes are even worse up here in Kansas. I go out as much as I can to thin out their population here. People don't understand that Coyote populations grow too fast for their environment. |
I wouldn't doubt it, that is if they ever get hunted out like the wolves were. Coyote populations are spreading so fast and far that I dont think they will ever get hunted out enough to suit my feelings. But you are right. If it does happen some "expert" will devise a way to bring em back by saying they are needed for something. |
On sight is being all cammo'd up and calling one in? I grew up in soutern indiana and have done my fair share of shooting shit just because, but I lost my taste for it. I'm all for hunting, but think every thing has it's place. Holy shit, a coyote eating a goat, WTF!? He's just doing what coyotes do. Oh well, my flame suit is on, so have at it beyotches!
|
When it is your livelyhood it matters a lot. One coyote can knock you out of several grand in just a day or two. They might be doing what comes natural, but the thing is that they spread so fast that they kill off everything around. Deer, turkey, livestock, you name it. |
Yea and when a mosquito sucks my blood I just let 'er be and say "she's only doing what mosquitos do."
|
Come to South Dakota with me sometime, Ill introduce you to a guy who hangs them to rot on his fence. Coyotes and Prairie Dogs get shot for a reason, and we sure as hell dont eat them. |
+1 to that, Coltsfan. I am an ardent supporter of gun rights and hunting rights, but I too have lost my taste for shooting animals just for the sake of killing something. If you are a farmer and your livelihood literally depends on it, that is certainly one thing (although I doubt that applies to many people here). But after spending years in the outdoors and hunting many an animal, I have acquired a greater sense of satisfaction from observing wildlife rather than killing it. I am not saying people shouldn't be able to hunt, I just don't enjoy killing animals as much as I used to. I think it is a perfectly reasonable position that shouldn't be mocked. And to those of you who liken killing coyotes to mosquitoes or ants, that is just absurd. Arguments like that are what get the tree huggers so up in arms. |
|
I am far from the area of hunting, I never have and doubt I will, but I hate coyotes. They are brazin bastards and I will run one down with my truck should it cross my path. I didn't watch the video, but I don't have to to know that they will kill anything they see; as in a kid if they had a chance. I have seen them following some of the kids on the way to school in my area. That right there is scary and they need to be delt with. |
|
Having seen this video already, it was a pleasure to see it again. I hunt coyotes with regularity - it's fun hunting them and more challenging than you might think. Some I hunt for sport, some I hunt for local ranchers who get hit hard by them during calving season, and sometimes I get the pleasure of killing an urban coyote that's eating pets and bothering kids. Afterwards, some I leave where they lay, some I skin and keep or sell the pelts. And just to say I did it, I even ate one, complete with an ARFCOM AAR. Ate a bobcat, too. TASTY |
http://www.awareone.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=9 I'm too retarded to make the link hot, but it basically says you are millions of times more likely to get attacked by a domestic dog and thousands of times more likely to get struck by lightning. Damn facts... I'm going to start running over every golden retriever is see, its for the children. |
|
Kalifornia has had somewhere around 5 or 6 toddler attacks by coyotes in the last year. Guess a lot of people there must be getting hit by lightning, too. Right here in AZ, we have had 2 elderly women, seperate occasions, walking their dogs and have coyotes bite them when they tried to defend their dogs from literally being eaten off the leash. I'm not saying that coyotes are voracious man killers, not by a long shot, but with human settlements encroaching on wildlife land, there are gonna be some clashes, and coyotes adapt very easily to urban environments. |
Way to pick one part of my post and take it to an extreame. If you spend 10 min looking up animal behavior you will likely never have an issue with a domestic dog attacking you. I'm was a vet tech, and have never had even the most scared of dogs attack me randomly. If someones Golden attacks you on the street, you have some serious issues. Wild animals are just that - wild. If they have lost the natural fear of people they are born with they become a liablity. It isn't nice, but it is the truth. For what it's worth, when I was 15 I was up in Flagstaff and a storm came in while my friend was drying her hair - lighting hit the cabin we were in and traveled the wiring to her hair dryer and it blew up, so I was 2 feet from someone who was hit by lightning, and saw it hit the wall on the other side of the cabin - what does that do to your stastics? |
Um, domestic dogs attack people all of the time, but I'm the one with a problem. And as for the last part of your post, unless a coyote ran into the trailer and attacked one of you after the lightning strike then my math has it as Lightning-1 Coyote-0. Thanks for helping my stats. |
|
Domestic dog attacks are more prevalant because people live in cities. Cities also tend to have a lot of domestic dogs. Your argument is invalid. Who the fuck cares if one wants to blast a coyote to protect his livestock. ETA- I say its good moving target practice |
I'll post a picture tommarow....... |
Lightning lives in cities too... |
ETA- sorry, I skimmed your response. When I was a kid my parents raised chickens. We had a major coon problem, and lost at least one chicken a night. We tried using a baby monitor. Microphone in the chicken coop, receiver in my parents bedroom. It didn't work. Even if My dad and I got out in time to catch the coon in the act, the chicken was already injured beyond recovery. I assume the same goes with coyotes. Thats why we had to go on the offensive. A spotlight in the trees and 2 twelve gauges with double X magnum turkey rounds out of a full pattern choke. In about two months time, we eliminated most of the coon population in our area. But we had to do this every year. |
Fixed. You must have missed this post that was right above mine
|
Ok. Lets say coyotes are eating your livestock and attacking toddlers. Is that why you posted this video? I think the at the end of your post says it all. I'm not saying you didn't need to kill it, but why jerk off about it? And if your wondering how long I've belonged to PETA the answer is never. They keep rejecting my application. Seriously, If I was starving I'd choke a frog to death and eat him. So in closing, nice shot, but so what? Flame on. |
Those weren't coyotes, just Obama supporters recruiting future sex education students......... |
|
I have seen this video as well as many like it. If you listen, after he shoots the dog I swear I can hear cattle in the background. Rancher/farmer was probably glad to have someone come and wack a few off his property. Around where I live it is hard to get permission to hunt almost anything. But if you are looking to shoot coyotes you rarely get turned away. I think a good indicator is how most states handle coyote hunting. Continuos open season. No bag limits. Shoot them day or night. Basically no rules. Hell most Counties in North Iowa have a $20 bounty on them. We have a couple of guys that raise sheep and will pay you $20 per dog, then get another $20 from the county. Then there is the impact on game that people will pay to come and shoot. That would be basically deer and pheasant in Iowa. Have not looked lately but I know that pheasant hunting is a real boon to small towns all around the state. People come here and stay in hotels, buy gas, eat at resturaunts, buy shells at local hardware store. Less Pheasants = less hunters = less money for small towns around here. So I will continue to do my part for the local economy and wildlife and shoot them on site. |
|
Here are just a small portion of the news articles I have found since 2007 about Coyote attacks. Coyote attacks toddler Coyote bites woman and kills dogs Coyotes attack children Coyote attacks pitbull Rabid coyote attacks woman Coyote attack in NJ Coyote attacks 20 month old in NJ Coyote attacks in Il. Next up, lightning strikes increase ten fold on the homeless hippy population. ![]() |

#1 You have no idea what he did with the coyote afterwards. #2 At 44 seconds into the video, you can see cows in the background. #3 To suggest that they must be caught in the act to be guilty is absurd.
|
how about a "yote" killing a cat in a suburban neighborhood? try this that close enough to home for you. a friend of mine in Texas lost two pet dogs in the same week to a pack of coyotes. he killed all of them but still lost his dogs. i have several farmers in my area that let me shoot groundhogs and coyotes on their land. the county will pay for each coyote killed. help the farmer and get a few bucks for my time. |
This. Coyotes are a serious nuisance and in some areas even a dangerous predator without anything up the food chain to keep them in check. I teach my kids to never kill animals for 'fun' because I think it's not good. Coyotes are fair game. |
If you are going to kill an animal at least use it. I am far from a tree hugger, but killing just to kill is senseless.
We shoot on sight because these things kill our livestock, ie; our livelyhood. Our income.
