And fleeing predators.

They used to be abundant in Michigan's U.P. until Fishers & Martins were re-introduced.

I've seen them in the hill country for the last 20 years or so.  They're not new.

Notice that all the observations stop at the Balcones Escarpment.

Looks like we held them at IH35 !

Nope, I've seen a dead one on Hwy 79 between Hutto and Taylor.

Hell yeah, fishers are really their only natural predator here.

I've never seen one in GA either, in fact the only one I have ever seen in the wild was in South Africa. Those African models are much more intimidating, big strong quills that can be over 16" long.  I have a bunch of quills from one I've been planning on making something from but I never seem to have enough to do what I want, a lampshade is what I really want to make.

I have also never seen one in GA.

I found this one on the side of the road 100 yds from the house.
Can't wait for the heelers to find one.

A 22 or 22mag is what I used the most.

I have zero experience with porcupines, but I’m glad they’re not in south Alabama.  Getting quilled would have to suck.

This thread is disappointing due to lack of porcupine puns.  Page 2 and this is only the 4th pun.

I'll jumpstart it....a porcupine walks into a bar...its up to you to finish it.

50gr V-Max from a 24" .223 barrel kills them dead right now.

Same for coyote and badger.

And most other small to medium critters.
