A Port Authority bus driver has been removed from duty with pay after being accused of driving under the influence.

Officials say 53-year-old Anthony Larkin, of Shaler, is facing several charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Larkin is accused of failing to yield to a Pittsburgh police officer who was trying to get across a crosswalk downtown on Wednesday.

Authorities report that Larkin is accused of yelling and threatening the officer who was later assisted by Port Authority officers.

Larkin was taken into custody. The criminal complaint reports that Larkin mentioned taking medication and at least one steroid.

Police say Larkin was given several field sobriety tests, and he failed all but one of them.

He was then taken to a local hospital for a chemical test of his blood.

In a statement, Port Authority spokesperson Jim Ritchie said: "Safety is a top concern for us. The riders were not injured and one of the reasons the Port Authority Police asked him to step off is because we did not feel he could drive in a safe manner."

Larkin's preliminary hearing has been set for May.
