I have a USB portable hard drive. I use it for storing music and files and such so that i can transport them without needing to bring the whole laptop. However, i am looking for osme security.

I've thought about making it a PGP encrypted volume. But if im not mistaken, you must install that on each individual computer that the HDD will be used on. Is there any sort of standalone security that i can use? Encryption isn't exactly necessary, but preffered. I want to control access to the drive incase it gets out of my hands.

Anyone? bueller? bueller?

I could always make a self extracting pgp file, but that woudl take forever to encrypt and decrypt.

According to the docs that came with my USB drive, it doesn't require any installation to do its job...

looks liek that idea won't work.

reading the info, it appears that sandisk drives  already have some sort of access/encryption on board. that software allows you to share that protection to your hard drives. You need to have a sandisk usb mem card for it to work.

back to the drawing board. I guess i coudl stick with my PGP idea..create two partitions...one encrypted and one that's not. when using other computers, stick the data on the public side. then, when i get back to my lappy, more the important shit ot the encrypted side.
