Many years ago, I was visiting my Father while he was married to his second wife. In their guest room, they had this weird photo of a toddler in a frame that had glass shaped like a bubble, giving the very high definition photo an almost 3D effect. After a couple days, I asked who it was and was told that it was my Father’s, wife’s great-Uncle who died, suddenly, as a child. Apparently, the community they lived in, quickly raised the money to have the child’s corpse photographed in this manner, tied to a stick and the eyes pinned open given the dead child’s face a doll like expression. I was told it was a very expensive service using an early form of HD photography but in some way comforting to grieving parents with no other photos of their lost child.
Personally, it creeped me out and when they divorced, I was glad to see that macabre family relic go with her. |
