Because
1.  The pics have to physically reside on some server somewhere, to "serve" the pix up for our viewing pleasure
2.  Your computer ain't that server (we;;. technically it could be but if you knew how to do that you wouldn't be asking about posting pics)
3.  ARFCOM doesn't offer a hosting service (hosting costs bandwidth which costs money), so you have to use one of the ones out there on the interwebz

It's not like email.

First you have to "host" your pictures somewhere.  ImageShack, Photobucket and others provide this sort of thing for free, but they have a variety of different policies, so do some homework.

Once you have your pictures hosted, the host will give you a URL for your pictures.  You'll click the little button with the picture of a mountain in the message composition window than paste the WHOLE URL into  the drop-down window-watch out for missing or duplicated "http://" bits because they'll goof up the link and it won't work.

Hope that helps.

Set up a photobucket account, upload pics to photobucket, in a AR15 post use the photo hyperlink (square with a mountain and sun at bottom of text box) to paste the pic address.

ETA: slow typist here.  LOL

Arfcom does host photos for team members (gold+?) but I gave up after fucking around with it for an hour.

I see some people using it though, so it might just be me

Click [Edit Profile]
Click anything in the [My Media] block at the upper right.
a new bar appears
" New File Collection - Edit Current Collection - Delete Current Collection - Upload File"
Click Upload File.
[Browse] to the location on your PC.
Once it uploads, the URL for it is listed right below the pic.

Sorry, but since I have created folders, I don't remember what was there FIRST...
