I have a space for a compact dryer. The power outlet is just a normal everyday wall type. The space is large enough for a full size dryer, but full size dryers have the larger power requirements of the 220 power outlet. Do i need an electrician to make the change? How much of a pain in the ass is this going to be. Cost estimate if I get someone to do it for me, will it take them an hour of is the change really involved?

Call an electrician. He have to change the outlet in the wall and get into the main breaker box too to do it right.

It should cost you a Service Call and $10-20 bucks in parts.

What is the amp draw of the compact dryer? You will still need a dedicated circuit so you do not overload the wire

If it is 20amp 220v, then a few changes in the panel and the plug and your good to go.

Hire an Electrician to do this work.

Most electric dryers need 40 to 50 amps. Does your main power box have 220 in it or is it a 110 only? You will need to pull new wires to the plug and install a new breaker.
