I've been looking around for a new routine and am interested in Practical Programming routine.  The thing is, I'm trying to go to Marine OCS, and I need to run.  Everything I read said to keep cardio to a minimum, but I can't see how I can lower my times doing that.  Also, I don't know if I can handle squats 3 times a week and running.  I can't keep up with Crossfit yet because I like a routine more than just something new every day.  Any ideas or suggestions?  I'm not looking to bulk up all that much, just gain strength.

The two aren't really compatible, and you can definitely forget about it at OCS, so it's better to get use to it now rather than later.  I avoided Crossfit for the same reasons you did, but I finally got tired of fastidiously self-programming for constant minor gains.  It was actually a relief to just check the internet every morning (or night before) and find out what someone else wanted me to do.

Run first and maintain the rest of your fitness through a program with less specificity whether it's crossfit, something from BB.com, or just plain pushup/situp/pullup/run.  It's not what you want to hear, YMMV, but that's usually how it goes.

That's what I was expecting to hear.  Just confirming it.  Thanks.  Maybe I'll think Crossfit over again.
