Hey all, just a humble request that I wish were an April Fool's Joke.

Found out today that my godfather, who is 56, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's yesterday.  He's been having a lot of trouble with things over the last couple months, a lot related to his short-term memory, but his doctors were unable to find out what it was until the other day.  He was the youth director at my gun club up until a few years ago and was one of the people who got me into teaching firearms safety, has had his FFL for a number of years, and has been a hunting companion of myself, my friends, and my dad for as long as I can remember.

So, if y'all could find the time, a few prayers for a fellow enthusiast would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Zach

I guess they told him 7-10 years, on the optimistic side... hoping for the 10, but I've seen people suffer from Alzheimer's for years and that's almost an uglier sight.

Just some words of wisdom.

If your the primary caregiver or one of them , just be ready for one of  the challenges of your life. Also take care of yourself mentally and physically as  taking care of a parent with Alzheimer's/dementia can literally grind you down. In other words take time out for yourself and bring in a caregiver if necessary to give you a break. The psychotrophic drugs out there can help slow it down , but unfortunately not reverse it.

Zach,

my wife and I will be praying for you; my mom (age 67) has Alzheimer's. The hardest part for me is watching my dad slowly lose his companion of 45+ years.

"Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we recieve; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life." Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (emphasis mine).

I just value my good health every day. My neighbor had it, he was really nice guy. He died when he was 60.

Thanks for all the well wishes... I always sort of wondered when I read these threads how much effect it really had, but it certainly does make a difference.  Much appreciated.
