Hey ladies and guys too...
My son is at Ft Leonard Wood for his Army basic training and has been there since early Oct. He is scheduled to graduate on January 22nd. He has had some issues with doing push ups because his back starting hurting pretty bad. He is 6'6" and we thought maybe he just strained it trying to do exercise he was not use to doing. They finally decided to take x-rays last week and gave him the results this week. He is diagnosed with beginning stages of degenerative arthritis in his lower back. This type of condition usually will not affect someone until they are in their 30's. The Dr told him this is a dischargeable issue. He is determined to stay in so she told him that if he did not return to the clinic for his back, other than refills on his meds he MIGHT be able to continue. He has even decided to stay on post for Christmas instead of coming home so that he can work on the push ups! He will be greatly missed! Steven could use your prayers...if they discharge him he will be totally crushed! He is so determined to make a go of his commitment to be a soldier and a medic that it breaks my heart to think he may not be able to realize his dream. Any and all help will be appreciated! Merry Christmas to all! and thanks in advance! Jane |

Prayers sent, PPN. Sorry to hear about the arthritis. I hate to say it but determination alone may not be enough to avoid a discharge. My heart goes out to him, especially if he winds up having to give up something that means so much to him. But reality is the arthritis is likely to get worse. If not now then later. Wishing him and you the best. Keep us posted on how he's doing? What did they give him, just pain meds or something for the inflammation as well? |

prayers sent.
Being someone that was diagnosed with arthritis at the age of 14 I know how he feels. I am in pain everyday and have been on all sorts of Med's. If he is interested I know several people that have been able to afford and take alfalfa caplets they will help a lot. Thanks to your son for his desire to be a medic and soldier. |

I'm praying for your son also. Hopefully his dreams will come true.
But, I'm praying for you also. It's hard on us parents when disappointments happen to our kids. To watch our kids get so excited about what they are doing and watch them also fill with pride at their accomplishments, and then also watch that dream crumble is hard on parents too. It breaks our hearts in big ways to see our kids dreams not go the way they planned. I'm praying there will still be a way for him to accomplish his dream. Prayers for you both. Coming your way! |

My own son recently was accepted into the police academy. He went from a 21 year old who was struggling to find his way, to one who was so proud of being accepted into the law enforcement. Then, he started having problems with his knee. Months ago he had fallen and ..well, not listened to me...and he hadn't had it checked out properly. He was forced to check it out now because of the academy. Turns out that he had torn three areas in his knee and he will be facing surgery on it. His dreams were put on hold at this time. It broke my heart to see a man so proud and then so shattered in such a short time. So, I know what you are going through. Hang in there. Just keep loving him through this and support him..as i know you will. He's lucky to have you there by his side. I think I've worn a bare spot on the carpet next to my bed where I kneel and pray for my kids. hahah |
