I'll preface this with the statement that I'm a software developer by trade. However, it's been at least 10 years since I've done web work. I'm a middleware guy. Even when I did it everything was JSP-based.

So I've been asked by a non-profit to help get their site purged of old pages and do minor updates from time to time. It appears to be a very simple html-based site with a few Flash banners as the fanciest stuff I've found so far.

What do you guys charge as an hourly rate? Would $15/hr be reasonable? I'm not trying to get rich. Just trying to help a friend out. But I can't volunteer my time either.

$15 to "purge"?
No rewrites?
Seems low, but if you just sifting trash and can add it to resume, being they are non profit...

It is very out of date and there are quite a few things that need to be deleted and a few things added...I am looking for someone who can update it in the near future and then make occasional updates as needed...

This. Sounds very low-tech. I don't care about adding it to the resume. Been there done that and never expect to do front-end work again.

I was thinking by adding it to resume it would be good for networking/reference not technical merit.

Have a friend that charged in the neighborhood of $100/hr.  $15/hr is too damn low.  At least do $40 or something.

Gotcha NM.

Wow. Talk about low-balling. Thanks! I'll up it a bit.

I think $50/hr is reasonable, now if you are looking at a lot of work you might give them a set fee and then an hourly fee going forward for any changes etc..  I don't do web stuff but if I was going to do side work I'd bill anywhere between $75-125/hr depending on what the job was.
