OK, here's the scenario.

1.  My HP printer has built-in WiFi and is connected to my wireless network.
2.  My notebook is also connected to this wireless network and prints to the printer just fine
3.  My roommate's desktop is connected to the wireless network, however he cannot connect to the printer.  On his Add A Printer Wizard it says the printer's URL is invalid, which is obviously not true.

Any ideas?

ETA:  On my notebook the printer is set to "shared".

Go to one of the computers that the printer works from.

Control Panel > Printers and right click the printer.

Choose the ports tab and see which port its using. Check the properties of the port. Write down the port number. Should be something like 192.168.0.*

Go to the system that the printer is not working on. Do the same thing and check the port numbers.

If its not the same then that is why the other puter cant print to the printer.

When you are on the system that can print and are inspecting the port...choose configure port...then choose about...and see what kind of port it is. There are vanilla network ready printers and those that have proprietary embedded printer port servers.

Your software that came with the printer should have detected the printer on the network when you installed the drivers. Try reinstalling the drivers and make sure the printer is on the net and the net is working and the computer your installing the driver too can see the network too.

Don't install it as a shared network printer. You want to install it as a local printer that prints to a port. After installing the drivers again (after uninstalling them first), see if you can see it and print to it.

If not you need to go the printer again and check its port. I often just install the software to the old vanilla LPT1 port, then go to printers and change ports to the network port.

The Add new port utility in the ports tab of the printers properties dialog will scan the network for available ports. So if you can't find the port in the list, add a new port first automatically. If your port is not on the list then add it manually, and give it an ip address exactly like the port number of the working port on the other computer.

This assumes you your running XP
