Wondering if anyone actually knows the laws regarding "conspicuous markings" on "toy" guns.  Do they just have to have the markings to be sold, or do the markings actually have to stay? I am asking because of the trend in cheap airsoft guns. Would it be legal to buy a $20-$40 Walmart special Airsoft M4(clear) and paint it black if not using it outside the house? I know if it's ever used as a weapon every possible charge would be levelled(unregistered SBR, full auto, etc..) but what about playing around shooting 12 pack boxes from across the living room?

Not stupid.

In this weird climate who knows what the powers that be would consider a weapon.

In a normal world a firearm would be some sort of device that uses burning propellant to discharge a projectile fast enough to hurt.

2008 planet earth?

Good question.  I don't know the answer.
