I have this old gateway desktop that I use every now and then.  It has windows 98 second edition.  It keeps freezing up on me and I can't think of anything to do to fix the problem.  Please Help!!!!

run memtest86

try to run scandisk.  and see if it finds any bad clusters.

do you have any antivirus installed if not do a online scan at  trendmicro

go to download.com  install adaware se personal and spybot search and destroy

try the memtest first. Check the cpu temp. If its an older computer, your power supply may be experiencing voltage fluxuations. This happened to a dentist office i serviced a while ago where i set up voltage regulators for there computers to keep them from freezing. Another possibility may be your cdrom where it stops reponding to win98's auto insert notification which will cause your computer to freeze. All of these examples are issues that will cause freezing. Start with the memory and work your way up from there. Good luck and let us know how it worked out.
