[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Problem with HDD as external drive

I bought a WD Scorpio Blue drive that I wanted to use as an external drive. The USB adapter would recognize two other drives but not the WD so I sent it back to the mfg and they sent me a new one. Same story with the new one. Windows just doesn't see the drive. Sees the adapter, the LED comes on and the drive spins but Windows 7 doesn't see the drive. Any ideas?

Ok, so I can find the drive under the device manager but it still doesn't show up in "My Computer." Does it need to be formatted? If so, how do I do that?

follow the same steps, it will allow you to find the new drive. then create a new partitiion, then format the drive link

Awesome. Thanks. One of the steps was a bit different, probably because the guide is for XP and I'm using 7 but it got the job done. Thanks again.
