I just got one from a friend to use for a upcoming shoot, and it won't turn on

When I put the battery( Duracell DL 1/3N) in, it rattles around in the compartment like there is supposed to be a spring in there to hold it.

There is a small coil spring in the housing surrounded by foam, but nothing in the cap.

Anyone?

Negative side of battery toward the spring on the inside... postive toward the cap... it should not rattle

Is there an O-ring on the cap?

Did you try another battery?

In the cap there is a blk (foam/mesh looking) contact.

Your friend might have bought the accessory battery cap that allows two batteries.  That's the first thing I did with mine.

It is empty, that could be a problem

After looking on GB, it looks like it has the extra battery cap on it, but there is nothing in the cap that looks like it allows the voltage to flow back to the unit.

I got it working, thanks guys

The batteries are opposite of what you would think, the tit end is negative.  I am an idiot for not looking closely.

Just looked in mine and the cap is empty. There is a little metal clip that holds the two barreled together but I don't know if missing that will interfere with the function.  Nope just checked. Put two batteries in there and you should be gtg.

Thank you for doing that Sir.

FYI for you guys, Batteries America has the batteries for $4.15 each, and Radio Shack wants $12.99 each!!!!!
