So I never had my tonsils removed and they have been giving me hell for awhile now. My right one is swolen pretty bad, what type of doctor do you go too to get them removed? And since I need to have my wisdom teeth pulled in the future is it possible to have both surgeries on the same day? (Wanna get it all over with if possible). As for my Tonsils the main annoyance always was the little holes on emm gets food stuck in them. I have to pick the food pieces out with a toothpick, well my right one has swolen pretty big and its sorta annoying right now. Isnt really painful but I can feel it. What type of doctor do I call about getting them removed? (Wierd thread I know but its really bothering me) |
Use a small blunt object instead. End of a tooth brush, popsicle stick, or even the end handle end of a MRE spoon. It's like a food zit. |
They are called Tonsoliths, and they suck mightily. They start with a bit of food, and then get coated in stuff like pearls, kidney stones, etc. They make your breath smell like you have Halitosis because the food at the center and the coating are rotting while in your tonsils. Eventually, they get big enough that your tonsil forces them out. I have sneezed the suckers out before (dislodged by the wind), coughed them out, and forced them out (when I tasted them on my breath) with the blunt end of a toothbrush (I have read that a Water Pik does a nice job on the Tonsil Folds as well). They have ranged in size anywhere from about a "grit" (like the food) to the size of a corn flake, only about 1/8" thick for me. The only known cure is a tonsilectomy. |
I used to get those, especially in cities with bad air pollution. I've not had one since I had my tonsils out in August. |
Dude, that's me exactly, and it sucks. If I notice I have bad breath, I push on mine and out comes this white-yellowish cottage cheese looking chunk a little smaller than the size of a pencil eraser. And damn does it stink ETA- I went and saw an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist ($250 initial office visit) for him to tell me to just try to keep it clean with my toothbrush, and basically the only way to get rid of it is to have my tonsils removed.

Aha, good to see im not alone. At first I didnt know WTF was wrong with the inside of my mouth untill I did a bit of research. I think im going to have to get emm removed. Sometimes my mouth stinks even after I brush/gargle listerine. Is swelling normal? As mentioned my right one is considerably bigger then the left one right now .Thanks for the replys guys, I didnt know alot of that stuff ^. BTW I googled this stuff, pretty nasty IMGs. |

They will swell from time to time because you have lymph nodes in the area. I have found staying away from bread products helps keep the pockets from filling up. I like the water pick idea. It would seem easier to whack them out and be miserable for two weeks or so until they heal. |
+ 1000 I use a water pic. Works like a charm- the shit comes flying out and reaks. I'm definately getting my tonsils removed. |

I got mine taken out last year at the age of 21.... it wasnt painful to have them removed, more so discomfort. I quit taking pain meds because it didn't do anything except make me delirious. When my uvula hit my tongue, it would cause me to gag. THAT SUCKED. I can breath 100 times easier now. if you can afford it, get them removed. you'll feel a lot better. |
My tonsils are always swollen, but dont hurt unless I have a big tonsolith working its way up and pushing into my tonsil/esophogus. They are usually the size of large grapes, just 1/4-3/8" away from my uvula. They have been that big since I was a kid. *shrug* I have read that Tonsolith symptoms often show up after a massive infection, like a sinus infection. I didn't have them until I had an infection so bad it reoccured and felt like I had an icepick in my ear canal all the time, and was wiggled/shoved when I yawned. It hurt like hell to eat, even. |
