Is there a company that makes a programmable LCD dashboard for passenger cars?
Basically what I'm thinking is an LCD that drops into a factory gauge location. However is customizable via the OBD2. Anything like this? |

Next best thing would be to install a double-DIN stereo that runs the Anderoid OS.
Most of 'em are Bluetooth-enabled, and will run OBD monitoring apps like Torque just fine. Torque has a nice selection of user-customizable gauges. The Bluetooth OBD dongles are cheap - under 15 bucks on Amazon or ebay. |

I know that - on some vehicles at least - the gauge cluster actually contains the computer / memory that holds the odometer information.
And for that reason they're fairly tightly controlled. When it goes out it must be shipped to MFG, not just swapped out. You could probably accomplish much by using a PLC (Like an Allen Bradley) with an HMI. But I don't know if OBD interface modules are available off the shelf or if you'd have to custom code something. |
