Making picture frames. We have a bunch of old black and white photos that are on a nice quality paper. Finished and ready for the keyhole in the back, will do all of the keyholes at one time.  Just got first coat of a flat water based poly  Some other that are waiting for the stain to dry before finish coating. Wife likes stained wood, I'm not a fan. Some woods sure stain away (pine, oak, hickory thats about it) other woods its FORBIDDEN (like Cherry, Walnut, Maple for example)  And for the wood experts, can you guess what this is? Its a common tree in the north eastern US  another mystery tree, the wood wil turn ot a chocolate brown when exposed to sunlight.  |

Love the cocobolo. I Have a couple mallets. For texturing work though you often have to hand push the tool to avoid the stepped marks in the finished cuts. |

Thanks. That leg form lived in my head for a long time. Future versions will place the bottom of the box body much closer to the resting surface |

I'm a tall guy and find most outside chairs/benches too low to the ground and hard to get out of. Also uncomfortable to sit on because it lifts my thighs up on the seat and puts more weight on my butt. So, I wanted my one bench for outside. I wanted a bench I'd be comfortable sitting on out in front of the garage, whether for taking a break or for sitting on for sit down type work (working on the weed eaters, staining boards for fences, flower cages, etc. inspecting brass, trimming it, priming it, etc. The front of the garage faces south and it can be quite nice on a sunny day even if it's only 45 F or so. The area in front of the garage will be warmer. Anyway, back to the bench. Kind of tall for my wife, but just right for me. Right height off the ground, right height of the back to support my upper body/shoulders well, right angle of the back to the seat, right height of the arm rests so my forearms can sit/rest comfortably on them.  Made out of treated lumber 2X4s. seat and back strips ripped from 2X4s on the table saw. |

Finished, for now. Cherry and soft maple. This was built as a means of exploring this leg design so I milled them first including mortises for the sides then built around them. It came out taller than I'd have preferred so I may have another go at this theme to work that out. I've not fitted an interior as I've no idea what might be stored in it. Hate to post stuff not up to the very high level here BUT!! You gotta start somewhere  So found out yesterday that we have a birthday party next weekend for her girlfriend and I am making her a custom charcuterie board okay...wife unit...wtf am I building? She said glue some boards together and....Welp 3 boards, glue and clamps got me to....the planer at 35* this morning....damn it's cold.. So here I sit, drinking wine.....need to sand moar and then finish...it is a mermaid/fish/turtle/ manta ray.....sea board.  She said And I quote " cheese and meat sticks...crackers slide off, so make the dang crackers not slide off" short of licking said crackers I made a 1/4 in Cracker spot 6x6.... Attached File |
