I say "Dangerous Sports" because I think "Extreme Sports" is cluttered with crap like skateboarding.

There was another thread, related to mountain climbing, in which one poster remarked something to the effect of, "Why would you do that?" The correct response by another poster was, "Because they're there." It sort of reminds me of the movie The World's Fastest Indian, in which a man seeks to set a motorcycle land speed record, and is asked why he does it.

My vice is that I enjoy riding my motorcycle at fast speeds and/or on curvy roads (the latter limits the former). Most people understand this, because motorcycles are relatively mainstream. In comparison, 3-gun (which I don't compete in but probably will some day) is MUCH, MUCH safer but less well-accepted. In effect, it is not danger itself but rather perception of danger coupled with a less mainstream status that makes other dangerous sports "not understood" by most people.

Also, the movie Dust to Glory touches very much on this topic, if in a roundabout way (though sometimes directly).

What do you do that other people "don't get?"
