Has anyone come across some sort of chart/graphic explaining the protected class hierarchy?
For example, would a female, handicapped, native-american, lesbian, war veteran outrank them all? HR managers must follow some rules of thumb (be surprised if this kind of stuff is written down), but who would a company hire if being viewed as "progressive" was important to them: A) gay black man or B) handicapped white female? |

It is all about diversity should it should be in reverse order of population. 51.5% of the US is female 12.8% are aged 65+ 12.6% are black 12.0% have a severe disability 7.0% are veterans 3.5% of the US self-identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual 0.9% are native-american 0.3% self-identify as transgendered 0.2% are native-Hawaiian or pacific islander Based on that a transgendered Hawaiian would trump just about anyone else in the diversity stakes. |

Good start, but I'm not so sure transgendered people get too much respect as that's a choice...most likely they'd qualify as standard gay/lesbian. What about asians then? They may be minority in many places in the US, but they don't seem to get preferential treatment. Hispanics are become majorities in some areas...are they then slipping down the ranks? |

So how many of us are none of the above? 48.5% are male.... 64.7% of those males are white non-hispanic meaning 31.38% of the population are white non-hispanic males 87.2% are under 65..... meaning 27.36% of the population are white non-hispanic males under 65. 7% are veterans, mostly male, but a higher proportion are over 65 so lets subtract another 3.5% leaving 23.86% of the population that are white non-hispanic males under 65 who aren't veterans. Subtract 6% for disabled males and 2% for LGBT males and we are left with (drumroll)..... 15.86% of the population aren't a minority (able-bodied straight white non-hispanic males under the age of 65 who aren't veterans).
