How much a day? 1 gram per pound of bodyweight? 1 gram per pound of lean bodyweight?

How much protien can be absorbed by the body at one time?

Personally, I do .8-1 gram of protein per body weight.  I'm 195ish so I consume anywhere from 160-200 grams a day.

How much protein your body can absorb at one time is going to vary on a variety of factors.  I've heard that it's best to find out your protein requirement and divide that up between several meals. (a meal every few hours)

My diet typically consists of

6:30 AM - protein shake and banana, 40 grams
9:30 AM - 2 packets of oatmeal, 16 grams
12:30 PM - 2 chicken breasts, slice of cheese and two slices of whole wheat bread, 50 grams
4:00 PM - Protein bar & coffee or redbull (pre-workout meal), 20 grams
5:30 PM- Protein shake (post workout shake), 25 grams.
7:00 PM - Some type of lean turkey, fish or beef with a side of rice or salad, typically 30-50grams.

This plan brings me easily within my ideal range of 160-200 grams per day.

I'm sure someone will be along to correct or criticize my diet if I'm incorrect but it seems to be working for me.
