I am definetely applying for ROTC, and I talked to a couple people who say I have a decent chance of getting in. However, I did have a couple questions I forgot to ask them. I am thinking about Army/Marines/Navy (yes i know, but I got time to choose), and I was wondering what happens after you graduate college. I heard that for Navy you dont do OCS, but for Marines you do? What about Army?

Also, has anyone here done ROTC before, any advice?

After Army ROTC you go to the basic branch course for whatever branch you're assigned to. Army OCS if at FT. Benning and is another route for a comission if you didn't go ROTC. I think they difference in the NAVY\Marine ROTC course is because the officers for those branches have very specific duties and responsibilities, and therefore go to different basic officer cources. All Marines go to the same basic course, but not every ensign goes through pre flight.

The Army system for ROTC is now called Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) and comes in 3 phases.

BOLC I is the ROTC/college years.

After commissioning, you go to BOLC II, which is 4-5 weeks of a sort of immersion training in small unit infantry tactics. This is to better prepare officers who may deploy within 6 months to a year after they get to their first unit. All ROTC commissioned officers go through BOLC II regardless of branch. Currently it's conducted at Ft. Sill, OK. BOLC II is still in the early stages of execution so the curriculum is improving all the time.

BOLC III is the old Officer Basic Course (OBC) which is now just the branch specific training you need for your chosen branch.

Then you report to your first duty assignment.

IM me if you have any furthur questions. I am the Senior Military Instructor (Army ROTC) at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
