I live in Charelston S.C yesterday I went to the shooting range yesterday. The more I'm around people with guns the more It's evident people don't know what the hell they are doing. When I first got there I saw at 10-12 year old boy and his Grandpa. They were shooting a .22 caliber ar15 with a cheap red dot. The two of them kept walking down range without making sure the range was cold! I was pretty shoked to see this idiot putting his little grandson in a huge amount of danger. I politely walked up to him and told him to make sure he gets everybodies attention next time before he wanted to change targets. He said "ohh I know that" and looked at me like I was crazy. After I said something the two of them packed up and took off.
Then the guy next to me tells me you shouldn't keep any of your pistol mags loaded because the springs would loose tension This was an older fudd type. I can't remeber the amount of times I saw people people pointing their muzzel at the person next to them.
I long for the day when I have enough land to have my own range and place to shoot. I'm very new to guns but I really pay attention to the safety rules especially being around a crowded range! p.s I took my glock 19 and mossberg persuader. Next thing I need is a decent long gun. The glock 19 is a very accurate pistol. I was hitting water bottles and tennis balls jump pretty easily at 25 yards. |

Did the guy next to you actually say the springs would "loose" tension? That must have sounded funny as shit! Ya I couldn't believe he said that. If you think that why would you even own and auto pistol and not a revolver. He did have a couple of nice guns though. He had a really nice ruger .45 cowboy pistol. He offered me to shoot 3 rounds. It was nice of him. |

To lose means to no longer have, as in, springs that no longer have tension (or take a set), lose their tension. |

State of emergency ... no shooting today. are you loosing your mind? what does this mean? 5. Areas of Emergency and Riot It is also a misdemeanor under North Carolina law for a person to transport or possess, off his or her own premises, a dangerous weapon in an area during a declared state of emergency, or in the vicinity of a riot. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7 A concealed handgun permit does not allow a permittee to carry a weapon in these areas. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-415.11(c) It came up most recently when Hurricane Earl was threatening NC. Basically, those not on the coast lost their gun rights and were possibly (unknowingly) breaking the law for an event that was happening hundreds of miles away. Gun Rights Examiner |

On my last outing to a public range, I saw all sorts of piss-poor gun handling. First, a father and teenage son came over to the pistol range, with an XD of some flavor. Son appeared to be a novice, and dad wasn't much better off. Son was shooting with his support hand thumb over the top of his firing hand. I stood watching and cringing, just waiting for the backstrap to slice his thumb. Luckily, they left before injury commenced.
Right after they left, three guys showed up with several handguns. The oldest of the three pulled out a spotting scope, set it up, and began calling out directions while the other two guys fired one shot at a time...from FIVE yards away. The youngest was shooting an S&W Sigma, and complained how low it was shooting. He kept repeating, "must be the sights." I finally asked if I could shoot it, and proceeded to put eight rounds in the "5 zone" of a B27. Explained the long trigger pull to them and how to "stage" the trigger. As they were packing up, I brought the AR out and did a few double taps and failure drills on the same target. The oldest says, "Automatic, huh?" I said, "Nope, just two trigger pulls." Both groups looked at me like I was crazy when I donned the GI loop sling and practiced my Appleseed positions. I offered to let the father and son duo fire the AR, but they both looked at me like I was holding a bomb. I just don't get it. |

Was it the Uwharrie Boggy Head range?
When I lived in SC I saw some mind boggling shit there. I once pulled up and saw two barefoot yokels shooting stuff with shotguns at point blank range. I didn't even stop and get out, just left. ETA: Got the names mixed up |

My Son and I go to Boggy Head about daylight on a Sunday morning. By the time the lunatics start showing up, we are done and leaving. Any other time we tried was a fiasco. Never go on a Saturday! you speak the truth. its a nice range for being public. I enjoy shooting my rifles out there, when its empty. I will go sometimes late sunday afternoon or during the week. |

If the older guy is who I think it is( Mike? its been a while) cut him some slack because he does a lot to keep those ranges open. (I guess that's really helpful... As public ranges those two are scary. Shit once at twin ponds some dip shit started firing while I was down range. I don't really miss those ranges. |

Yup, I agree. I went to a local indoor range after work one Friday for a plate match that evening- the club range usually shoot at was closed and a half hour of range time was cheap enough. Plus, showing up at a match with an unzeroed, unfamiliar DA revolver probably isn't such a good idea. The ROs are very attentive, but there was a few times when I thought that I might leave with an extra orifice, or possibly in a bag, considering how folks in some of the other ports were handling guns. I looked down the muzzle end of a Glock 2 too many times when the lady next to me swapping mags/ reloading it.
I have shot there before, and I will shoot there again. However, I think in the future, I will try to be more mindful of when I go and speak up to the other shooter and/or RO or owner if there is a problem...rather than just (proverbially) shitting myself. |

So you wouldn't care that your paycheck said $85.120 instead of $851.20? I think not. When you commmunicate with words, a different word can make a huge difference. The examples you gave are not words. Thanks for proving my point. When I say words, it represents alphanumeric. To Koz, it represents alphabet. |

Then the guy next to me tells me you shouldn't keep any of your pistol mags loaded because the springs would loose tension He says he keeps his m and p .45 with and unloaded mag on a bedsided table. He plans on quickly loading the magazine and then chambering a round if someone was to break in.
The guy is a lightweight. I keep my 1911 magazine empty too. And I also keep the recoil spring plug out so the recoil spring can relax and not take a set. Same with the mainspring and the sear spring. Can't be too careful you know. I am sure I will have plenty of time to reassemble it and load the magazine if someone breaks in.
