I need some help or recommendations for a good wall mounted pull up bar.  I am thinking like the ones that we all had in high school.  I have gone the door mounted route before but my wife apparently doesn't think that our brand new house needs a bar in the doorway!

I have found a few online, but they are much more expensive than I would have though...like $150+.

Any suggestions?

I've built like 4-5 bars like this:

Go to Home Depot or Lowes, buy a 36" peice of 3/4 or 1" pipe, 2 elbows, 2 floor flanges, 2 10" or 12" nipples, some lag bolts and a 2X4.

Bolt the 2X4 to the ceiling in the garage across mulitiple studs. Put together bar, bolt floor flanges to the 2X4.
Works great, very sturdy....

There is a thread on here if you check back a page or 2 about a guy who built a pull-up and a set of dip bars in his back yard.

This is a great idea. I have been making due with using the highest peg in my squat rack and chinning on the barbell. Much less than optimal especially when I'm doing supersets with something else that uses the barbell.
I got a 48" section of 1" and I am going to use a 2x6 for some slight added stability.  Its very simple and should work perfectly. Thanks for the idea.

Glad I could help....I had built a couple before then we moved into a new house...I sat there, thinking about the best way to build a better bar....then I had a epiphany...so simple, I don't know why I haden't thought of it before. The last one I build I even put a T between 2 36" bars with another nipple and floor flange to make a double bar for me and the wife...works AWESOME!

I use my closet rod... I realize however that most closets won't allow this...

Just something to try though.
