The left side of my body is weaker than my right.
When doing push ups majourity of the weight is put on my right arm which leads to wonky push ups. My trainer told to work on the left side but i can't remember what he said, and it's too late to ring and ask. he said something about books under one of the arms but Im not sure if im to put it under the right arm or left.... any help from the experts? |

A. Trainer? What are you? A movie star?
B. Don't put anything under anywhere. Maintain an even torso while performing your pushups. Eventually, you'll even out the strength. C. This won't happen by next week. Give it at least six months. Now GET ON YOUR FACE AND GIVE ME 50!! MAGGOTT!!!!! |

I'm in sort of the same situation. I tore the tendon connecting my right front deltoid to the arm bone. It wasn't reconnected, so there's a big slot in my right shoulder where the muscle has atrophied. My military PT Profile says I can't be required to do more than 15 pushups.
I can still do 60-65 pushups. As others have said, just do your regular pushups with good form. Your body will adjust by strengthening the needed muscles. Do three max sets, not to failure (!!), 3 times a week. If you're over 40, make that twice a week. |

You don't need to do anything except do more pushups. The body will even things out eventually for you. This - use proper form and hit the floor. Your body will regulate to proper ergonomics over time. Trying to compensate for asymetry will just make things more complicated. Use perfect form and just stay at it....the body will balance out. |

You don't want to get too wonky. You might try some dumbbell work, that way each side has to work independently. I have been doing dumbells, bench press, seated row (and dumbell row) and assisted chinn ups/ tricep dips which I don't really need to be doing assited for the first two sets. Im 19 and only started working out 4 months ago. Mostly because I was bored, Friends work at different times to me so I don't have a gym buddy hence the trainer who just sets me a work out routine every couple of months and then do some kick boxing training.
