First time I've had a keychain clicker thingy and its failing to unlock
my door. So, just pop it open and replace a battery or is there more to it than that? And just what is the industry name for those things? |

Key Fob is what they call them I think... Indeed, but that really is a misnomer. Keyless entry remote/keyless entry fob is probably a more precise term. Since any other key fobs are just decorative, I doubt there is really risk of miscommunication, though. |

Most have replaceable batteries, some do not. What kind of vehicle is it for?
Look at the seam of the two halves nearest the key ring loop. You ought to see a slightly wider crevice that will allow you to insert a coin or screwdriver and pry it open. Usually a CR 2032, CR2025 or 12v battery. |

batteries inside. DONT LOSE IT ! If you have to have the key fob replaced by the dealer it can be upwards of $500 Also, this is horseshit. You can replace most any fob for under $20 and program it yourself in just a few minutes, barring a few situations/types. |

On my 2008 Avalanche, three of the four door locks have failed to date. If the battery fix don't get it, look into that. I bought the car used. I got 2 of these things. One works fine, the other doesn't. Its a 98' Lincoln 2-door coupe, Mark VIII with only 49,200 original miles on it. |

Also do you have TWO WORKING KEYS? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31uOFpINVJL._SL500_AA300_.jpg Yep. 2 keys also. |

It should take the 12 volt battery type. once you replace the battery (observe it's polarity!!), if it doesnt work you may need to reprogram it: programming instructions turns out you wont need the two keys for yours, just one. |

I replaced the battery in my Silverado fob and it did nothing. Those key fobs are notorius for having a broken solder connection between the battery tab and the circuit board. Open it back up and see if the claw shaped battery retainer is loose on one side. Let me know. ETA: tried to Google an image of it to show you what you're looking for and found a vid.
