| Why don't they have a bunch of AR15s on those ships? |

Quoted: I am a very deeply religious man. & I remember somewhere in the Bible talking about a Eye? Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. I will give you one guess who "he" is. |

Friend of mine is a captain....he HATES that movie with a passion. He stated how Cap Phillips caused the whole attack to begin with by hugging the coast instead of being far out to sea. As a Master Mariner, I agree. He was a moron. Most civilian owned and crewed vessels are not armed either by company policy, regulations, or both. They have been hiring armed security teams more lately but at the time of the incident it was very rare. In many ports AR15s would get you thrown in jail like a recent incident in India. Most companies insurance companies felt it was just safer to pay the ransom than to be liable for some one getting shot. |

I like this video but wtf is it with "warning shots"? Those motherfuckers are coming to kill you. Maybe there is some sort of rules of engagement I am unaware of. Personally, there would be no warning shots. Those assholes would fucking die. |

May 2011 attempted hijacking[edit]Midnight, 14 May 2011, while transiting westbound in the international recognized corridor, Maersk Alabama was approached by a skiff of five pirates on the starboard stern. After turning to follow the ship's wake, the skiff quickly closed in to 30 metres (98 ft), preparing to board via a hook ladder, whereupon the embarked security team fired two shots into the skiff. The skiff quickly broke off and radar contact was lost after 10 minutes.
The above was copied and pasted from wikipedia. There are other articles out there about it. |

Now I want to be a security guard on a cargo ship when I grow up. Quoted:
Trident Group hires for that if you meet the qualifications. Quoted: My question to that is you can't hide a few long guns on a shop that big? Quoted: Quoted: I believe it has to do with the countries they deliver to and the restrictions on weapons. My question to that is you can't hide a few long guns on a shop that big? And if the ship is searched/inspected and they are found? Do you want to risk your company being barred from delivering to those countries? Nope

I believe it has to do with the countries they deliver to and the restrictions on weapons. My question to that is you can't hide a few long guns on a shop that big? I am guessing that being imprisoned in a shithole like Somalia or some other third world country may not be worth it. Might be better to just pay for security or get the required permits. |

Why don't they have a bunch of AR15s on those ships? Armed treaties. These are civilian ships, not military. They could in theory have AR15's... but each time they get ready to cross into territorial waters they will have to dump them overboard (some do this). It's cheaper just to hire a security force that has floating armory boats that comes to the ship before territory entrance and gets all their guys and guns... once the ship heads back out, they join back up with the ship. It's still a huge risk, sometimes the ship drifts over some sovereign waters and the security is forced to dump their M107's and loaded out rifles. One ship reportedly had a real big bill when they dumped 5 m107's overboard. (This is why you see a lot of these security companies now use cheap AR's and 50's) |

Excessive for taking pot shots at skiffs prior to boarding? Possibly, but if those pirates somehow got aboard the ship it would be a whole different ballgame. |
