| I want to start making my own jerky and have been looking at amazon and can not decide on one. Any recommendations from people that have a specific model they use and like? |

Ever thought about saving some up-front costs and just using your oven?
It works just fine to turn it to low, prop the door open 1" and let the meat dehydrate over the course of 6-8 hours. Might try that before you get a 'real' dehydrator. I own two dehydrators, they were both purchased at garage sales for 1.00 each. Lots and lots people buy them, use them twice, then stow them away. Pretty easy to find used. TRG |

Can't make as much at once, but I can make it a whole lot quicker. Set it to 200 degrees and crack it open a little. |

I've been using one I ordered from Nesco years back. More than satisfied with it. I have one of these that I bought at Wal-mart and it works great. Same here, but as TRG said, it's easy to buy one, get bored, and lose interest. I haven't used mine in several years now. |

Not a bad idea for an electric range though. |

I really like the ones made by Excalibur.....hold up really well under heavy use. You can get them from Cabelas. This is the one to get for home use. I have had one for three years and we have one at the ranch going 6-7yrs old no problems. They have 9 trays and I can do 20 pounds of meat and onlty have to refill it one time |

I have also been using one from Nesco, the American Harvester model. I did have one problem with it, the temperature fuse blew on it once. I replaced it and it has been working fine ever since. http://www.pbase.com/terry_56/image/81501995.jpg I have the same on with ten-12 trays. I used it alot when I first got it. Lost interest have not used it in two years, I am going to bust it out and make Christmas jerky. |
