This is by no means meant to bash or flame!

I'm curious why one would become a Mason. Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, I just don't know what you get out of it. Is it a mens club so-to-speak? I'd imagine you might get extra perks from other Masons, like for speeding tickets & such... is that the main point?

Like I said, not bashing, I just wanted to know "the selling points".

I'm not a Mason nor do I claim to know much about them but from what I've gathered, their brotherhood rivals that of any Infantry or Marine Corps platoon (if that's any indication).

Number One: Everyone takes the same oath.  Welcome to the club, Number
           908.  You have joined the Sacred Order of the Stonecutters
who, since ancient times, have split the rocks of ignorance
that obscure the light of knowledge and truth.  Now let's
all get drunk and play ping pong!

Hang on a second...  I need to find my nomex suit, butter the popcorn, and don the tinfoil hat.

Okay, now sing along everybody...

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!
Who leaves Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs the cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscars night?
We do! We do!

Heh-- you scooped me, Raven!

Why the Masons (and I are not wun)?  To serve your community.  Masons do a lot of charitable work for the community.  Many of our founding fathers were Masons.

Though the Masonic fraternity is made up of spiritual men, the only question regarding your religion in a Masonic lodge would be whether you trust in God.  That's it.  We don't care if you're a Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, etc., just that you have faith in the Supreme Being.  We don't discriminate on the basis of race or financial status.  To be a Mason, you must ask a Mason, as we do not "recruit".  Just have a fairly good reputation, a faith in God, and the willingness to help others.

Though Freemasonry has secrets, it is not a secret society.  If it was, I wouldn't acknowledge being a member.  I'm proud to be able to say that I am a Master Mason, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason, and a Shriner.  No, I have yet to be issued a small car.  It is the oldest existing fraternity, and has its roots in the operative masons (StoneCutters, if you will) and their Guilds during the Middle Ages.

Together, Masons acknowledge the existence of the Great Architect of the universe, whatever you may call him, gather together to support each other in becoming better human beings, and try to do what they can to work together to help the less fortunate.

It is not a cult, nor a religion.  For more answers to questions, feel free to look at the following web-page:  www.momason.org

I hope this answers some of your questions, and allays your apprehension that we are a cult.  I have been called a devil-worshiper by those that don't know anything about Freemasonry that's not in a Jack Chick tract, but I place my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and He knows it.  I don't have to answer to anyone else.

Ah yes, more trite references to Albert Pike.  PLEASE look into the history of a fictional creation, how, when, and by whom it was resurrected, and try to figure out why it is so commonly used as "reference" material. Maybe we should all reference Star Wars as suitable evidence of the truth.

Many people have fallen victim to hoaxer Leo Taxil who produced a truckload of forged documents claiming that Masons were really members of a "satanic cult." It is Taxil who manufactured the fake Albert Pike quotations about satanism and Freemasonry. Taxil set his trap and then revealed it himself as being a hoax in order to embarrass the Catholic Church.  It worked and both his hoax and forged documents are a matter of history yet to this day, many anti-masonic people have continued to rely upon Taxil's forged documents while conveniently omitting the whole truth.
