Or, more specifically, their approved installers.
I need to get two new tires for my Cherokee. Tire Rack has them for $105.45, plus free road hazard warranty. My local Firestone has the same ones for $113.00. Another local tire center has them for $115.00. I'm pretty sure both charge for any extra warranty. Both are listed as approved installers, in fact just about all the approved installers are tire shops. My question, why would they (or any tire center), partner with Tire Rack at a lower price, when they could charge me more if I'm buying direct from them? Am I going to get shafted more on the installation or in some other way? |
| Just get the local place to price match INCLUDING tax if you aren't in a state that Tire Rack charges tax. Install is going to be about the same regardless. Discount Tire is real good at matching, not sure about Firestone. I'm not fond of that place. Especially for alignments. |
| I am a tire rack installer. Mostly it brings customers that I not have pulled in. We collect a little more in install fees than if we sell tires and install. Most of the time if we look at both my price out the door and tire-rack out the door it will be close around 10 -15 dollars. There is the sale tax issue of if I sale I have to collect tax for the state and if they order online they are suppose to report it. The tax thing is big if it is high dollar tires. So I hope to provide a quality service experience to someone and gain them as a return customer. |

Tire Rack will gangrape ya on freight. Last Quote I had, Tire-Rape-Rack wanted $336 shipping on a set of 4 tires. That's b/c of your location. Before I moved to AK, I bought tires off of tire rack, and to ship them to AK after I moved was close to $400, but shipping them before I moved to UT was $19/tire and 2 days shipping. Needless to say I shipped them to Utah and had the movers pack and haul them to AK

Support your local non chain business. This. I've been doing business with a locally owned and operated tire store for 30 yrs. Over the years I've become friends with the owners and know they are honest and have the same pricing as a discount tire joint. |
