A friend of mine called today to tell me that he found a USMC Sabre when he was cleaning out a storage building he bought. He knows that I have an interest in guns and blades and wanted some info on it and to know if I would be interested in it. I don't really know anything about them, myself. He said that it looks fairly old and that it doesn't have anyones's name on it. Are all Marines issued Sabres? Is there any way to find the original owner? If I can't find the original owner, I considered giving it to my cousin, who was(always will be ) a Marine, and taught me a lot of what I know about rifle shooting and knife fighting.Any help? |
Yup. Since Marine NCO's are only authorized to wear the sword while in command of troops in formation, it's really just a wallhanger unless you're a DI, and they don't give out wallhangers for free. I bought mine. |
 Look for engravings or an SSN somewhere on it or the scabbard. maybe you could trace the owner that way. |
He is a former Marine scout who still polishes his boots, so I am pretty sure he will take care of it. I am going to try to find the original owner first though.
