Buying a Socom II off Armslist. Said he was in Ohio, but that he's .Mil and would have to have his FFL send it to me. It's a little odd, since we're both close and he put in his ad it was in Ohio.
I received this E-Mail Well am a military officer i stay in Iowa but am presently in New york.My ffl here will ship it down to you It could be a scam, obviously, but what steps could I take to protect myself? I realize I could just walk away, and I very well might, but so far I might just be being paranoid. |

He just needed to move his life savings out of Nigeria because of political upheaval. It would be downright rude of me to refuse to help the poor prince! |

I would ask who the FFL is and call him. Make sure your all on the same page. I did ask him that, and intend to verify the FFL, but how would I even know if the guy I'm talking to IS the FFL? I get myself worked up over things like this because the amount of money haha |

Never attempt to buy anything off of gunlistings or armlist from someone out of state. I've run into so many scam artists. Here's a list of techniques that I've posted on gunlistings to help others avoid them(scammers) They will advertise a really great deal.
They will typically have a google voice phone number. They will be out-of-state. They will have foreign accents. They will offer to ship to you. They will express to you that you have nothing to worry about. |
|
Ask for the FFL's name, not his phone number. Google the FFL to get a shop number. Call that and see if the guy is legit about setting up a deal.
Ask him what branch and unit he is attached to. Ask him why he posted local when he wasn't local. Already seems scammy. I'd walk away. |

his English sounds way fucked up and talking about three different states. I would check the IP address in the header of his email address to make sure he is where he says he is. If it says Nigeria walk away.
How to find the IP address in a email header |

Edit: Oh, contact Armslist and let them know |

Yep, thanks for the comments. It was a scam. So now, is there anything I can do about it? I did, but I hope no one else gets caught before it's taken down. Link it. Multiple reports gets it pulled faster. |
