Hey guys, got a quick question regarding a denied FFL transfer.

A friend of mine's wife recently tried to purchase a hunting rifle at Academy and she apparently answered one of the questions incorrectly on the 4473.  The clerk told her the transfer was denied and she couldn't submit another one for 30 days.  Plus, her husband couldn't submit one for 30 days either.  Does this make any sense?  I couldn't get any more details other than what I've already posted.  Thanks for any info.

Mods, I hope this is the correct forum for this thread.  Please move if needed.

I was with my wife's cousin in Academy a few years ago and he could not read the form becasue he didn't have his reading glasses and screwed up a question. They told him the same thing. This was in Plano.

None of this does. Unless I'm wrong, the only way NICS would deny a transaction is if there was something in her background prohibiting her (or if they got her mixed up with a woman who is prohibited from buying firearms) or if she tried to buy a handgun/receiver out of state.  The whole 30-day thing makes no sense either.  The specific 4473 is valid for 30 days, but AFAIK she can go to the gun shop down the street and try again.

The NICS manual doesn't mention anything like what the clerk told her.

ETA: If you accidentally answer "yes" to one of the questions on #11 (are you a fugitive, have you ever been convicted of a felony, etc.) the clerk is supposed to not call NICS and to end the transaction right there but that is NOT the same thing as a NICS denial, not even close.

There is no "30 day rule" by ATF or FBI NICS. It may be an Academy corporate policy.

Im an FFL in Plano and have witnessed first hand a whole lot of WTF when at the gun counter in Academy, Gunmaster and Bullet Trap.
Bullet Trap seems to invent a lot of their own Federal laws and ATF regs.

It is a policy at Academy. If you make any mistake on the 4473, Academy denies you. Further, your name and DOB are put into the Academy computer system as being denied until such date.  It's BS, but it's their policy.  As for denying a spouse, i dont know about that.

This according to a friend of mine that works the "gun bar" at Academy in south Arlington.
