My vision used to be extremely good. But in the last four years, I've noticed it declining, particularly in my right eye. I can see fine according to my eye doctor, and I have no problem IDing targets at 100 or 200 yards at the range or anything like that. But for instance when I'm reading a word document or even this forum, I used to have no problem sitting back 3-4 feet from the monitor and reading it. I can still do it, but notice focusing issues in my right eye. The same goes for street signs, I have be nearly 15 yards close to them to figure out what they say. It's very strange. I'm younger, so I don't think it's age related, and my doctor continues to tell me everything is fine. But I can notice it.
Anyone else notice anything like this? |

I'm curious if you have astigmatism. I was the same. My eyesight was excellent for about 21 years and then all that reading in college in dimly lit study halls took its toll. Now, my left eye has so much astigmatism it throws my vision off balance. I can usually manage without glasses if I'm just puttering around town and at the range, but computer or books require glasses. |

My eye doctor said that because my vision used to be really good, that even slight degradation would make it very noticeable and that I shouldn't worry about it. But I'm paranoid so that's impossible haha |

Do you occasionally need to blink-blink-blink to sort of re-focus your vision, or do you have to look at something for much longer to read it than before? Since you are catching this early, you CAN slow down vision degeneration, but you should get a second opinion to see if the problem is your vision or something else. Also, does your occupation require you to stare at computer monitors for prolonged periods? |

Unfortunately age is universal and it usually shows up as visual changes earlier than in many other anatomical venues.
Having said that I suggest that if your "eye doctor" is a dispensing optometrist you consider visiting an opthamologist. An opthamologist is a Medical Doctor specializing in vision and the eye. They have significantly more training, knowledge and available screening and evaluating tools than an optometrist. It's possible you have a condition or problem that an optometrist might have not discovered. |

Also, does your occupation require you to stare at computer monitors for prolonged periods? I would say my right eye definitely has to stare a bit longer to focus. And yes, I work in finance so I stare at a computer all day long. I've been considering those screen tints they have. |
