My mother has a den of white foxes (and a red one) under her shed. Several pups. They haven't caused any problems, and I don't particularly want to kill them. But it seems they may have dragged animal corpses under there, because it stinks. They seem pretty playful and friendly, but since my nephew comes over here a lot, I'm not sure how safe it would be with a child playing in the backyard, potentially by their den.
Anyone have any ideas, or from the Ohio area that wants a litter of foxes?

Babies are born between March & May typically.
They'll stay with Mom about 7 months - so you're looking at October or later before they go out on their own. IMO - not much of a threat - but young kids need an education on keeping a distance. Any animal in a corner is a dangerous one. Mom will most likely keep using this den, so when the young ones are gone (however/whenever that is) you'll want to secure up that area, maybe add some human scent to persuade her to stay away. I'd hate to see anything bad happen to them, but you gotta do what you're comfortable with. Maybe the Game Commission would be interested in relocating? |

Selectively breed them for 30-35 generations and you can domesticate them! |

I'd have game cameras set up, plus I'd have my digital rig always handy, and a blind set up... |

Urban/suburban foxes are reall good for the stray cat population. Really? I usually have 1-2 dens of red foxes on my 160 acres that have litters every year. I also usually have at least 5 cats that live outside in an old barn. Neighbors have barn cats also. I have never lost a cat to foxes in over a dozen years. The chickens occasionally get massacred, but never the cats. |

Shit. This is a first. A thread about a wild animal and no one is recommending killing the shit out of it and insulting anyone who disagrees with them as a pussy who doesn't know where their food comes from. Am I in bizarro world? Beekeeper in 5...4....3....2....1.... |

I definitely understand the rabies risk... but would a rabid fox be hanging out with the other foxes in a den? In my limited experience with rabid animals, they were always off on their own. |

Yeah, you said it, |
| We have several on our property. They're really not that afraid of people, our will walk within 20 feet or so of us and give us an uninterested look now and then. We just ignore tim, and they tend to ignore us. Main thing is, don't let anyone flip out of they "walk past you in the yard" or whatever. They're not rabid, hey just do that. We have one that lays down next to the house and watches the pond, you can walk right pst him, and he just looks at you. |
