For about a month now, I've been having problems with my big toe on my right foot.
Seems it's numb on one side... starting at the tip of the toe, around the side and stops about where it attaches to my foot. At first I thought it might be an ingrown toenail, but a visit to a nail doctor resulted in a $25 copay fee and a "I dunno" from the doc.
I was hoping it would eventually go away, but it's really annoying me.
No pain involved, just the lack of sensation on the left/outer side of the toe...

Picture a foot shoved into a shoe...  any skin on my big toe that comes in contact with the inside of the shoe... is numb.
No discoloration
No pain
No ingrown nail

WTF ???

Any ideas ???

Bulging disc in back would be my guess.  Any problems with strength in that leg?

I have been hit with spinal/back pains that have dropped me to my knees in the last few weeks/months, but I didn't think it could be related...due to the small/isolated nature of the numb area on my toe.

I have a bulged disk--burning pain in my leg, muscle spasms in my back, weakness in my leg, numb spots on my foot....

Edit: sounds like it could be a nerve. Hope you are able to get it corrected.

Everything else seems/feels normal. No weakness in my legs or numbness elsewhere...  just the outer/exposed portion of the big toe...

The doc I spoke to originally thought it might be the shoes I wear, but I've tried wearing boots, sneakers, slippers, etc... to work and had no change...  Same numb feeling.

Actually it can, when the disk buldges it presses on part of the spinal cord/siatic nerve that can create numbness in your legs and feet.  I have a buddy that has some kind of chronic degenerative disk thing.  He loosess sensation in his legs with no warning, or pain.

I would get an MRI
