My wife has a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. It now has the problem with the faulty reading gas gauge. I was told there was an additive I could add to the gas tank that may clean the varnish off the sensor. Does anyone know what it is? I'd rather try it before I drop the tank and replace the sending unit. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Call Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and see if #10054D: Special Coverage Adjustment - Fuel Level Sensor Contact Wear applies to your vehicle. They may reimburse you for some of the sensor replacement. Ya, they sent us a letter before we even had the problem. They offered to pay for half the repair at the dealership, but it was still going to cost me over $200. I'm a cheap ass and would rather do it myself and save moat of that money. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| My 04 does the exact same thing but also stalls when idling. Took it to GM, they replaced the cam position sensor, and the fuel filter, buttoned it up and sent it back to me. $800 later, they didn't check it to see if that fixed it. Didn't make a damn difference. My question, if you let the engine idle for 5-10 minutes does it stall? If it does, fuel sending unit. GM fuel sending units are always going out. My roommate's sister's 04 Tahoe was doing exactly what my trailblazer is doing and once the fuel sending unit was replaced it ran just fine. My roommates LBZ has a rather unpredictable fuel gauge, fuel sending unit. My friends LB7 just up and died on him with a half tank…fuel sending unit. Mine ran out of gas with 2 gallons left in the tank and always stall if you let it idle for more than 3 minutes. At some points the gas gauge will go from 1/8th to 1/2…I've learned you have enough fuel to make it a mile before the sending unit cuts out. |

As a tech who does all sorts of GM fuel pumps/senders on a regular basis, I was thinking the same thing. I think the sender alone, is more than $200!! |
