I am building a shop in my back yard and I am going to side it with Hardie-Plank to match my house.

I see Hardie-plank calls for the distance to ground to be 8". My sheathing goes down to 6" from the ground. It seems like I have seen LP is rated to be 6" from the ground.

Would there be any issues with me using LP for the first strip close to the ground and then Hardie-Plank for the rest of the building?

Just use the Hardie, paint all sides before you install it on the bottom row if lap siding is used. The LP won't last as long and won't match the Hardie.

You'll be fine. It's basically for rain splash back off the ground.

If you do want to raise it, first install a 1x8 of Azek for a water table trim piece around the base of your shop.

I have some on a shed here within 6 inches and no issues.
