I used to watch the SG1 series in the early seasons and loved it. In its last five seasons I only saw episodes here and there. Most of what I saw was not in order, and now I'm started on the DVDs. Anyway, question is, is Atlantis nearly as good as the SG1 series? The few later episodes of the SG1 series that I saw I didn't care for so much. The series finale I happened to see while staying in a hotel for work last year, and I was especially disappointed with it. Is this any indication of what followed with Atlantis? |

SG1 was more consistent. Their "filler" shows were good and their "thriller" shows were excellent. Atlantis is more peaky. Their filler shows suck, but their thriller shows (defending atlantis, fleet-on-fleet, etc.) are better. I mean c'mon, an entire episode about escorting a 12 year old princess through the woods....although the ending was kind of funny. |
Last weeks stuck in the hole was baaaaad, but the battle at the Replicator homeworld kicked ass. |

I don't think Atlantis is as good as SG1. I think most of the problems with Atlantis now stem from the fact that they have changed key members of the cast so much that not everyone is "gelling." I would also say that the last two seasons of SG1 were not the best. They should have ended it after they defeated Anubis. |

i dont know, i like Atlantis, the cast is finally getting it together, i mean there finally out of the shadow of SG1 and Col. Charter has added a whole new dynamic being in charge. Rodney is becoming his own Char and the team is starting to click. i liked last week about them trapped in the hole. it helped show build Char. especially at the end with Dr. Keller your really bad at this. i got to the point i switched my old avatar from the Earth Glyph to Mckay. i have really started to like it this year. doesn't help friends have started comparing me to mckay. GOD, lets hope not but once the ones on afrcom see this post they will start. even family have started saying did you do a Mckay today when i mess up. Ronald |
I agree, I loved the first five seasons. My viewing after that was sporadic, but the little bit I saw, I didn't think it was the same quality. Even the story lines I felt were a little off. |

absolutely great ending. the plot was so-so but the payoff painting would be a great starting point, of a write your show based on the painting |
I agree, the chemistry really made the SG1 series that Atlantis series seems to lack. To me the SG1 series after a while started to show writer burnout and the humor worn out and predictable. When Claudia Black joined the show, the creativity and humor really picked up. However, by then the staleness had infected the audience. Ten years isn't shabby for any series though. Atlantis has the makings of a great show. Some of the actors have developed their character but some are just acting by the script. The Rodney character really rubs me. He reminds me of the Dr. from the "Lost in Space" series back in the 60's. The chicken shit act only goes so far. After that just shove him out an airlock and get on with the show, it gets old that fast. I expect a cowardly character to either get a pair of stones or get knocked off after a while. Amanda Tapping on the show gives it credibility if the writers will write the script to allow her to assert her leadership and bring the crew together. So far she has been kept too much in the shadows. Her almost walk on parts makes me wonder if she is a temp replacement. It is still well worth watching, however. |

I think you people need to go back and watch the first couple of seasons of SG1. It was not nearly as good compared to atlantis; it was boarder line suck. SG1 started getting really good in seasons 4-7. Part of the problem with Atlantis is that we don't focus on the team on missions as much. Generally that is what SG1 was about. Team exploring/fighting on a new world. We havent had a full roster team mission in a long time. |
