Last night I went to shut my computer down and the message box came up that said the computer was busy and gave me the option of end now, I clicked on it but it still wouldn't shut down so I just clicked the switch on the surge protector and turned all the power off. I tried to get back on today and the tower would run but the monitor would not. The green light on the monitor would come on only briefly then o to orange, what did I do and how can I fix it?

fyi I'm using the computer at work right now.

Disconnect the monitor and then reconnect it.
If that doesnt work, try connecting the monitor to another PC and see if that works. The results of this test will tell you if the monitor is the problem.

sounds like you shorted your monitor.  you should never turn your computer off  using the switchboard.  the power generator in the back has a switch on most new computers or you can use the manual shutdown button on the front of the computer.

Seen it a million times, and almost never the monitor.  Sounds like the machine is doing the good ol' power but no post.

So any idea on how to fix it?

Could be a number of issues, all of them involve opening up the box.  Go ahead and try the monitor, on the off chance.  If you're not familiar with working on the internals of the machine, don't, people can cause a lot more harm than good.

I'm pretty confident with opening the tower, I've installed a dvd burner and
a video card

First check the monitor on another PC… if it don’t work you know it is the monitor. If the monitor does work…

Give the PC a good whack… seriously.

Unplug the computer the open it up and reseat all the cards memory ect. especially the video card.

If still nothing check back in.

Yep, it does post.

I'll try unplugging and then plugging back in all the cards. Can't do it till after midnight when I get home.
