I have always bought guns at gun stores and gun shows.  Never done a face to face.

Now it has come time to sell one.

What's the best way to do it?

Gun Broker?

the EE?

Is it best to send it to an FFL?

Legal issues with a FTF?

A newb needs some input.

Don't sell it. You'll regret it.

Some questions will get you about 200 answers with most of them being correct...this is one of those questions.

Good luck, at least you came to the right place.

Try the EE or take it to the next show you attend.

As a fellow Ohioan, I would put it up on the EE.  You don't need any paperwork when doing a FTF.  It is just like selling a TV or a pencil in a parking lot.  I tend to meet people in a crowded parking lot to do the transaction.

You would have to ship to a FFL in the buyer's state where he would pick it up.

Very small hijack but pertinant to the OP's question:

If I brought a rifle or handgun to a show to sell face to face, and stated up front that I would need to see a driver's license (only to verify citizenship, or verify state of residence in the case of a handgun), would you object?

There would be no bill of sale, no written information changing hands.  This would be only so that I could honestly say that the sale was legal as far as I could determine.

Good question.

Also when doing a FTF (specifically when purchasing), do you get a receipt with the S/N on it?

I would definately get the seller's information.  If the gun is used in a crime, the last known owner on record would be you (assuming that you bought it from a gun shop) and you might have some tough questions to answer.  If the seller is offended by you asking, then the seller is probably up to no good.

Do I have to verify the shipping address is an FFL?

Do I have to give it to an FFL to ship to a FFL?

Yes and no (unless receiving FFL requires it, which most don't).  You should include a copy of your ID in the package though, so the receiving FFL knows who it came from.
