I have to ship my guitar amp back to the manufacturer, so it's all boxed up and ready to go. The last time I shipped  an amp, when I tried to get it insured for it's value $1000 they wouldn't insure unless I let them box it up. Do they still deny insurance for pre-boxed items or have they done away with that?

Never had that issue. I box and insure without any issues, ever.
I do it all online, and print my own shipping label.

Gotta be the issue.

I've shipped a number of expensive firearms through the UPS hub and have never had an issue with insurance.

I ship high $ items via UPS all the time and have NEVER been told they have to see it.  Go directly to UPS, not some shipping store.

You probably went to those fake UPS stores that does it for you and carry the liability so they can make even more money.

Go to the real UPS depot.

I have seen art insured for over 75k.

I ship high value all the time. I box it but they did open and inspect once. Are you using a UPS Store location? That isn't actually UPS but a separate company with a different set of rules. You can drop off at a UPS distribution center without the hassle. Be sure to keep your signed receipt as your insurance will be denied without it.
