I'm coming down with a cold (stuffy head, sore throat, runny nose etc...) and I have some Amoxicillin that a dentist gave me a few months back, can I take this to help with the cold?

Not a doc but NO

Antibiotics do NOTHING for viral problems

People doing things like this are why MSRA and other drug resistant bugs are making great gains.

first of all you should have not had any antibiotics left
second of all you don't use old antibiotics
third of all you have no idea if it is viral or bacterial
fourth of all I don't care what you do to your health but the damage to the public health by over/miss use of antibiotics I do care about

Not a doctor. But no it won't help. Antibiotics are for infections, a cold is not an infection.

I really thought this was going to be about a horribly infected toe.

When you are perscribed an antibiotic, you should take the ENTIRE perscription as directed.  There should never be any "leftovers".  By not taking the entire perscription, you take the chance of not only having the infection regrow, but also mutate into a form that further antibiotics cannot kill.

Please pay more attention to the instructions on your medications in the future!
