I updated my quilts page with a couple more that I'm working on.  Currently I just have one short side border left on the baby quilt, which I have sadly neglected for over a year.

Next up I'm going to make a couple of these quilts for friends with new babies:

Then I'd like to make myself a nice square in square done in bright woven colors.  After that I might feel brave enough to tackle the king-sized Double Wedding Ring for our bed, either in 30s repros or Civil War colors (a bit of an anachronism since the DWR pattern originated in the 30s, but who the heck cares?).

That is such a neat quilt!

Lee's mom does a lot of quilting.  She keeps asking me when I'm getting pregnant so she can make a quilt for her grandchild.  Oy...

Ah, I've never seen a quilt thread.  I hired an elderly lady friend to make a "wedding ring" quilt for my "someday" wife.  Well, I ended up giving it to HoneyBee for a wedding gift.  It was expensive, due to the complex nature of a wedding ring quilt, but it is in my favorite colors--shades of blue, with a white background.  It is exquisite--and most importantly, she loves it.

Very nice, MrsGloftoe.  Is there anything you don't do??

Handmade, hand-sewn quilts can and should go for four figures for a bed-sized quilt.  Those suckers take weeks to make.  (Or years, in some cases ).  I love wedding ring quilts.  I collect pictures for my inspiration.

And I don't do windows!

That is so cute. I helped my sons girlfriend make a quilt for her nephew for christmas. She said everyone loves it and wants one. I just have to make the time to make some for myself.

Your quilts are beautiful!
I love quilts.  I have a friend who has made two for me and is on a 3rd.
She has been making a simple quilt with sports team materials for "stadium" blankets

That's a cool one, Mrs. G!  I finally finished the one I posted about months ago (remember when I "borrowed" your idea on the Dresden Plate?).  I'll see if I can get QS to host a pic of that one for me.  Now, I am working on a quilt for our new niece.  She showed up a few weeks early and I am a bit behind.  I am also working on a crazy star one in Civil War fabrics that I love.  If it weren't for that quilting part, I'd have a whole bunch more done!

Even machine made quilts can take months or years....   (especially if you put them in a box  and don't work on them for a while -- wanna talk UFO's -- UnFinished Objects?)  It's really hard for non-quilters to understand the hours and hours of work that can go into a quilt -- and -- it's so hard for a quilter to really total up the time they spend.

Mrs.G -- what a great collection of quilts.  I like your patchwork class project -- I think that would look very nice on my bed  .  I can send you my address?......  And the Eagle scout memento is a very unique and thoughtful gift.

Thanks!  You know, to tell you the truth I was thinking about sending you that class UFO to quilt for me!  I have the backing all made and everything, just no inclination to hand-quilt through all those seam lines, and not a good setup to machine-quilt a king top.  Whatcha think?

Here are the fabrics I just washed and ironed for my square-on-a-square that I will be making for me (it's mine!  all mine!  hahahahah!).

Wow, You’ve made some really nice quilts.  On rainy days I used to sit at the head of the basement stairs and watch my mother sew while complaining about being bored.  She always made a lot of our clothes and then got into making quilts.  I can truly appreciate the time and skill that go into making one.  You must be very proud.

Gorgeous!

I haven't tried quilting... YET...  but I have two that I love, one made by a maternal great-grandmother, and one by a paternal great-grandmother, each over 100 years old.

I keep thinking I want to try it... but a king size bed requires a DAMN BIG quilt!

Sorry to butt in ladies.

Those are beautiful quilts.  I'm impressed.  I have all my great grandmother's quilts and my grandmothers.  I've got two that are pretty special to me hanging.  The rest are still in use.

Ever thought about an AR quilt?

Anyhow, very very nice work.

Note to kids: if you ever want to make a quilt, chances are you'll need some geometry.

I hate geometry.

Mrs Gloftoe...great quilts!
Do those fish have separate fins sticking out (3d)? or is that an optical illusion.

I hadn't handquilted in about 10 yrs, but saw a little gizmo called the "Aunt Becky" demonstrated at the Glendale Quilt show (not to be confused with the Glendale Gun show)

Using a loosely hooped quilt, it is so easy!.. The AB is basically a piece of folded metal. No affilliation yadah yaddah  You can find pix on the net, it is a piece of folded metal, can give instructions if anyone is curious.

As far as an AR15 quilt...i'm thinking one could quilt the pattern, perhaps as a border, instead of feathers or flowers. hmmm have to work on that idea.

I haven't made the fish quilt yet, but I believe it does have fins sticking out.  You can put a little music maker in one of the fins to drive mom & dad crazy.

Is the "Aunt Becky" a rounded piece of metal that you use for your underneath hand?  I've seen people quilt with spoons.  I just use my finger underneath... it takes a while to build up the callous, but I'm comfortable with it.

Thanks for the fish quilt info. Long time ago I made a cat quilt for a guy friend who likes cats. Different color  camo fabric for each cat...and the calico cat was a mix of patterns :)

The Aunt Becky is a bent piece of metal...the ridge is held against the quilt sandwich, the needle hits the 'ridge', lower the AB, move it a stitch away,  load another stitch on the needle. Works great for me, because I can keep my hand comfy in one position under the quilt, no wrist stress for either wrist.  I may have been holding the needle wrong before (tried thimble and calloused hands too).  Looking back, the quilt was probably stretched too tight!    So I went on to machine quilting for the charity quilts for the VA.

hmmm  Quilted CCW vests in my future?  See my post in Survival forum about clothes for ladies

Although it might not work for CCW, the pockets are helpful indeed, when traveling or just errands

I love your color choices, in both the fish quilt and for your king size.

I collect quilts, both antique and new ... I really want to start one of my own from scratch, there are several workshops in my area to help beginners, if I can get time away from the baby to go to one. I'd love to make one for him that he can keep forever.

You have inspired me!
