I need more RAM. Do you think it pays to get the good stuff, or is generic just fine? I'm looking at a minimum of 2 x 2GB of PC2 DDR 5300. I can get Crucial for $89.95.

Crucial sucks. Google them. My last pair I'll ever buy died, then replacement failed in short order as well. On top of that, they denied the rebate on BS, said I didn't include the UPC. I did with a photo to prove it.
ETA: This was with the highest-end Ballistix at the time. |

Quoted: I've used Crucial, Kingston, Ultra and Mega in recent years and had zero problems with all of them. My current rule of thumb is to buy the cheapest one with the best NewEgg rating. Same here, thats what I do ..I always look at newegg's ratings based.. that reminds me that I need to order some parts before midnight due to tax :) |

6400 is cheaper than 5300 on Newegg. My system will take 5300, 6400, and 8500. I have all 5300 now, but at the price I might go with 6400. $37.99 per 2Gb at Newegg, with free shipping.

One pair sure, I'm just unlucky. But the replacement pair then crapped out in less than a month. They also screwed me on the rebate. Checked and found lots of other complaints on Newegg reviews and links from Google. All I can say is be wary of purchasing it, check reviews before hand. |

If you have multiple pairs of ram dying on the same motherboard, I'd be concerned the motherboard is throwing bad voltage. |
