I applaud the idea. However, it will never happen even for the most treasonous or abominable of criminals.
Executions close as possible to the commission of a crime are a deterrent to commit a crime which death is the penalty. However, Americans have no stomach for capital punishment, particularly if they are on juries. They don't want sentencing a person to death on their conscience. I have seen too many juries fail to return a death sentence in cases where someone has committed a particularly horrific murder. They feel ostentatious to put the person in prison the rest of their lives, which seeing our judicial system could mean 20 years or so at some point in the future. Of course there are those bleeding hearts out there that are always trying to get murder's death sentences overturned because it is so cruel... you know the same ones that think it is ok to butcher a baby. |
