I knew Chris Brown for over a decade, bumping into each other on calls and in training.  He left work early on Monday or Tuesday with a bad headache, then checked himself into the hospital that evening.  Last night one of the guys on my hockey team who is on the city FD got a text while we were warming up to the effect that Chris had slipped away.

I'll miss him.  Funeral is Monday.

That sucks, one less right-thinking American. Sorry for the loss to his family and his extended FD family. I'll hoist a glass in his honor.

What did he succumb to; H1N1; a brain aneurysm  or Meningitis?

I don't know exactly, and I only heard bits and pieces of the conversation so I wouldn't want to guess.  I do know it was brain related and was not H1N1.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's dejavu. Had a good friend of mine pass away  years ago. I was his relief on midnight shift, I was a rookie and my Bullet proof vest hadn't come in yet, he would give me his to wear when he punched out. He was finishing his 1600-2400 hrs, i drove him home and he said he didn't feel well and had a headache. He went home and never woke up. 32Yoa and passed away. I still have that vest 13 years later. Life is so precious......

As a Roanoke City LEO, it's sad when you see one of your co-workers and friends' lives cut short like this.  We'll all miss Chris and our prayers go out to his family.

Damn that hits hard, I was born in Roanoke. I will keep in and his family in my thoughts.
Everyone stay safe out there and take care of yourselves.

Damn dusty rooms. . .

Here's to a place where there aren't any late night runs, you always have good water, and some other crew rolls the hose for you.

Stand down, Cap.

Took some photos today, I'll see if I can get permission to post them.  Like any public safety funeral, it was simultaneously impressive and heartbreaking.

My sincere condolances. I've lost three friends in the past year, all in the FD, and know how hard it is to see a brother or sister go before his or her time. Prayers sent for the family... may they find some comfort during this trying time.

RIP, brother...
